North of the city of Makassar, up in the mountains, you’ll find the strategic Panga Village. We say “strategic” because this poor village, with almost no current economy, has the potential to become a development model for similar struggling villages all over the country.
Our first effort in Panga Village is to show the people there how a few simple economic approaches can change their lives. We began by establishing a farm that uses a bio-organic farming system in which all the materials are organic. The farm is a model of efficient coffee growing and pig farming. The pig farming project will turn a profit in early 2010 and yield never-before reached profits in under three years. And in five years we should have close to 500 coffee trees!
