Tucked away in the desert of North Jordan, the village of Al-Mufradat has been largely forgotten by its own country. For over 60 years, Palestinian refugees have lived here in near-total isolation, most of them without any sustainable income and dependant almost entirely upon outside assistance.
In 2008 GHNI Jordan made its first trip to Al-Mufradat. We provided some practical needs like shoes and food, which became the building blocks for a relationship. In the summer of 2009, some goats were donated to the village as a means of sustainable income and for the production of much-needed milk.
We envision providing more than just goats and shoes in the future, perhaps a pre-school and health education. The goal is to see Al-Mufradat transformed into a strong and independent village. We believe it has the potential to become a model for future villages in Jordan and throughout the Middle East.
