Jordan: Sama Sarhan

The village of Sama Sarhan sits on the Jordanian desert. Sandstone houses blend in with the desert haze. Children run around bare-foot with smiles in their eyes, though many of these children are orphans. Between Sama Sarhan and its neighboring village, Mugayer el Sarhan, there are 140 orphans. Children who live with their mother but have no father (by death or abandonment) are also counted among the orphans lacking a provider. GHNI is partnering with village leaders and administrators of their local Society for Orphans, making efforts to assist in caring for the orphaned children, as well as introduce Transformational Community Development. Already, the people of Sama Sarhan have participated in GHNI’s goat loan program benefiting from protein-rich milk and cheese for their families and producing dairy products that can earn an income.
GHNI is excited to come alongside these sister villages, both eager to be released from poverty and bring positive changes to their communities. Through partners like you, Sama Sarhan will be empowered to attain the skills and resources to rise above their circumstances and become self-sustaining.
