As we continue to carry out Transformational Community Development (TCD) training, we have seen great impact and change within the Gada Korma community. When we visit households with our committees, we gather information on their health problems, economic and educational issues, water issues, and other various problems that they are experiencing.
This quarter, we formed a Food Committee, and I spent time teaching farming techniques. There is a lack of food and the high dependency on relief food in that community, so we brought in an agricultural officer from the county government who surveyed their lands and advised on the best crops to be planted in that region. I also used the TCD materials we have to teach on crop management and how to market produce after the harvest.
Wario is one of the beneficiaries of the survey. He was previously a pastoralist who depended on livestock, but when the prolonged drought hit the country, he lost all of his livestock. Through our TCD lessons, he received training on land preparation, the use of organic manure, and pest and disease management. He planted maize in his small piece of land, and this season he had a bumper harvest and was able to sell some and pay his children’s school fees. He is now the pioneer of our TCD program in Gada Korma Village.
Thank you!
