Valuable Lessons on Listening
July 10, 2023
We continued to provide Transformational Community Development (TCD) lessons, focusing on women and families in society. The focus of our recent lessons was on being good role models as mothers. How to set a good example in words, behavior, and reactions so that children can learn good behaviors. After two weeks, Maryam shared and said, “I am a very nervous mother with my son. My son is nervous too and has increased movement. He always makes me angry, so I hit him and say difficult words to him. But in the women’s group, I learned to lower my voice and deal with him calmly so that he was not nervous. I show my son my love and compassion, and I learned to stay calm in my reactions, behavior, and words because he learns from my actions.”
The TCD children’s lessons were about listening to others, especially to their mamas and papas. During the review of the lesson, Mahra said, “I used to cut off my mother’s words while she was talking to someone older than me, and I also did not listen to the words a lot and got into fights with my brothers. At times, I did not listen to their words about helping my mother at home, but I learned in TCD to listen to their words and help my mother at home. I also learned to listen to the words with interest, without interruption, and to the end of someone speaking.”
