Selfless Love
February 7, 2024
We continued to provide the Transformational Community Development (TCD) program in the Shubra Al-Kheima community. One child, Joyce, participated and said, “I said bad things to my younger brother and said, ‘Why are you short, useless at everything, and a failure?’ I pushed him with my hand, and he fell to the ground and kept crying. My mother came and punished me and reprimanded me severely. Then I remembered a lesson I learned in TCD classes about mean words and their negative consequences for my relationship with my brother and his psychology. I went and apologized to my brother, bought him chocolate, made peace with him, and decided not to let any bad words come out of my mouth again.”
We presented the TCD lessons for women, and our lesson was about selfishness, self-love, and how it affects others. Hanaa said, “I am a widow with two daughters, and from time to time, I buy things for them even though we are poor. My eldest daughter said, ‘I want this thing.’ I told her that it was not necessary, but she said, ‘I want it very much.’ I felt that my daughter remained selfish regardless of our situation, and I learned in the TCD meeting that a selfish person only cares about himself and tries to create happiness for themselves and not for anyone else. I decided to correct this concept for my daughters, and a change occurred—not a dramatic change, but now I see the difference when we discuss what to buy. My eldest daughter started telling me, ‘Mama, you need things more than us, but you love us and give us things all the time.’ I told her my actions were because I learned not to be selfish.”
