Political Conflict Slows Change
July 15, 2024

The Transformational Community Development (TCD) program gives awareness to the village leaders that they are equipped to help their people with the right attitudes and help transform their lives. In the beginning of the program, Yone Taw Village responded to TCD so nicely and saw the results. However, the current situation has not given them the ability to continue to make positive changes. The conflict in the area has a huge impact on the villagers. Our Champion tried to stay positive and proceed with the good work regardless of the challenges she encountered on a daily basis.
Now, under the Junta’s conscription law, all men in the village eligible under the law left the village and took shelter in border towns. There is also an intense relationship between the Junta assigned Village Chief and the villagers. At this point, our champion does not see an opportunity to get the community’s attention and participation in the program. There are the Junta spies in the community who would cause problems any time. It is still impossible to meet people and work together on development work. However, the loan program that was started has still provided benefits for the beneficiaries. Our champion is monitoring their work and holding the loan takers accountable to return the loan with the intention to expand the program to benefit more people.
Thank you,
