No Longer Financially Backward
August 21, 2024
My name is Divija*, and I was forcefully married at the age of 12. My husband and I have four daughters, and we work as laborers. We were financially backward, no one in the house was educated, and we had no idea about the future. When we were sick, we trusted the knowledge of the local shaman/exorcist and did not trust anyone else.
Transformational Community Development (TCD) started in our community, and I became a member. I didn’t have any knowledge when I went, but we were taught many lessons and given much knowledge. I learned about health safety and felt very sorry about how germs can cause disease. I also learned to be self-sufficient and how to change our finances by increasing our farming. I did a lot of work and changed my thoughts, and now I have even built a toilet by myself. Previously, no organization helped me, but now that I have the education of TCD, there has been such a big change in my family. Thank you very much to GHNI.
Transformational Community Development (TCD) Update:
Water
During this period of teaching about water safety, I taught that it should be boiled and purified to drink and cook with. Seven people were influenced by the teachings of TCD. Divija’s* hand pump for drinking water was built with her own investment.
Food
I conducted awareness classes with five men and two women on eating a balanced diet with fresh vegetables daily. The subject taught to the community members about food also included information on vitamins.
Wellness
We held training classes on community health and personal health care.
Education
Three women were taught to write their names and read a little. Four children enrolled in the primary school, and now they are going to school regularly. Good results have been seen.
Income Generation
The community has bought cows with income from their goats and well business. This month, four families in the community have taken an interest in land and cultivated rice. This has helped them increase their income.
Thank you!
