Trauma Counseling Teams are groups of professional therapists, psychologists, pastoral counselors and other helping professionals who partner with our Global Hope field personnel to address the psychological trauma of those they serve and surrounding communities.  Teams have responded to the needs of earthquake victims in Malatya, Turkeye; to the needs of Sudanese refugee women in both Cairo and Aswan, Egypt; and to the needs of refugee women attending our Women’s Empowerment Center in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Another role that trauma teams play is to equip local community and faith leaders as they seek to respond well to the psychological trauma of their people.  Inevitably, we find that there are traumatized individuals in those trainings, and we seek to respond to their needs as well.  Those trainings have occurred in Ethiopia and two West African countries.
   This is challenging and rewarding work, as the needs are so great!  Traumatic events can produce serious psychological consequences in the lives of those impacted, but there is also hope for communities to pull together and for Post-Traumatic Growth and Resilience to occur.
   Professionals travel at their own expense to participate in these week-long Trauma Counseling and Training teams, and attendees are often desperately impoverished and find it difficult to pay even for their transportation to attend.  Please consider a donation to help offset the costs of these teams, both for the participants traveling to help and for the attendees in difficult locations.  And if you are a helping professional and would be interested in more information about using your skills in this important work, please reach out to info@ghni.org.

Trauma Team Trips

Over the past year, more than 450,000 Sudanese have fled their home country as a response to the war in Sudan. From April 12-21, 2024, a trauma counseling team led by Celia Deneen worked with Sudanese women in Cairo and Aswan, Egypt. They worked alongside our Global Hope colleagues living in Egypt and consisted of trauma therapists, two psychologists, and a medical doctor.

Our vision is to see people transformed through the efforts of professionals using their skills in interenational settings. Support our efforts by donating online, funding a similar trip, or joining a short-term trip yourself.
