Never Too Late to Graduate!
As the school year began on September 6th, the Women’s Empowerment Centre also geared up, in-spite of recent hitches. The mayor previously provided a training hall for the centre. Unfortunately, the divisional officer disapproved. It felt very frustrating after all the efforts accomplished till date.
In a series of meetings, the women proactively located a new house. It received new paint and cleaning of the surroundings to create a conducive learning environment. Thanks to this, seven candidates were accepted. These candidates were mostly single mothers, 15-25 years of age. Almata and Loali are single mothers, who were drop outs from primary school. After Transformational Community Development (TCD) lessons on the importance of Education, they silently braved it, studied on their own, registered and wrote the school, and earned a certificate.
Their success has given them more motivation. “From my farm, with support from my mother, I will be able to meet the conditions for training in the centre to improve on my life”, declared Almata, while happily working and cleaning around the centre premises.
We received a list of 26 applicants while the accommodating space can only take care of 12. The conditions have been spelled out for those who wish to be the first batch of centre, and with just a token, to make it inclusive, the first 12 (9 girls, 2 boys) registered will be considered.
