Despite Roadblocks, Help Continues
February 3, 2023
As we help provide food to the hungry in Afghanistan, there are some challenges and difficulties ahead of this project. They include new employees not knowing or understanding the system and others who are out for personal gain. Even with the new regime, there are problems with red tape – sometimes even worse than before. Also, we have spent a lot of time and energy talking with local staff and government partners to persuade them to finally confirm the reports. These are just a few of the challenges.
The Heads of Villages documents are stamped and signed, then the district governors have signed off, but there are problems as we go up the chain. There have also been some government policies (such as banning women from working in the offices) that have been enacted that have caused significant delays and difficulties for Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) like us. Some NGOs have closed in protest.
Late last year, we did relief distribution for 100 families in Daykondi. The people were so thankful for our help because foods that we provided were so fresh and of good quality.
International pressure applied by other countries, impacts our financial situation in a negative way. We have not been able to receive money for close to two months. We owe the wholesalers for the food we received for distribution. We hope the financial situation improves so we can pay our debts.
So, despite all of the difficulties, we were able to build friendly relationships with many people around us. GHNI continues to give people Help and Hope during these difficult days.
Thank you!
