Steady Growth
February 3, 2023
With the latrine project progressing as community members save funds, most committee discussions have become centered around Income Generation. The conversation around raising goats changed once the idea was put forth to raise chickens instead. Next quarter, committee members say they will have a business plan and proposal ready. This indicates that they are looking to partner with GHNI, and it is the hope of the Transformational Community Development (TCD) training team that there will be a way to keep momentum as the community looks for local subsidies.
The soapmaking initiative has been steady. It is encouraging to see the women functioning independently in terms of production and financial management. Test marketing on the island of Java has gone well, as the company that markets Polewali coconut oil has added the soap to their portfolio. At the end of the day, it will be up to these community women to determine how far it can go and how much the impact can spread to more families in the TCD community.
Transformational Community Development (TCD) Update
Water
We have completed five water source projects, and there is talk about finding a water source for growing vegetables.
Wellness
Groups are still being formed as they deal with the problem of building latrines on land that they do not own.
Income Generation
We are looking to make soap-making a more significant source of income for Polewali families, since it is going well.
Thank you!
