Partnering with Neighbors

Pua, an elder in the Polewali community, has become an inspiration to those around him. He spent his younger years traveling the country and looking for whatever work he could acquire as a laborer and driver. Eventually, he returned home to the village and built a simple house, where he now lives with his wife and four children. They earn income by spinning rope and taking care of goats owned by wealthier folks outside the village. When the Transformational Community Development (TCD) latrine program began, Pua immediately organized his five closest neighbors to pool their resources and build latrines for their households. In the coming months, these six families will have taken the next step toward improving their living conditions and health.
