Forgiveness to Move Forward

Challenges are endless amid the civil war in the country after the military coup. But it is even surprising to see the village leadership take the initiative to handle the new challenges they are encountering. The village’s capacity to take good care of the entire community members in their hardest time is highlighted in their attitudes towards their neighborhood.
The villagers have shown love and care to Internally Displaced People (IDPs) who took shelter in Myat Hlae, sharing their natural resources such as forest, water source, places for shelter etc. Their merciful and caring heart impressed many people who learnt about Myat Hlae.
Recently, an unexpected disaster happened to the community. An old man accidentally ignited a wildfire in the community forest and burned many plantations. It caused a big loss to the community both physically and emotionally. More than five plantations under the agricultural rehabilitation program have been burned down as well. The victims of the disaster were discouraged. However, they decided to forgive the old man who started the fire. The incident has opened the community leaders to think seriously about how they can prevent their forest from burning. As a result, they are planning to set up a committee to preserve the community forest and prevent it from any kinds of disasters. It is impressive to see the resilience of this Transformational Community Development (TCD) village and how they engage in solving their new challenges together.
