Developing New Areas and Growing Others
September 5, 2023
We have good news this quarter! A new Transformational Community Development (TCD) group has formed in one of the more impoverished village clusters of the Polewali community. Residents of this particular cluster have been timid in the past about attending TCD lessons. A woman, Wahida, has emerged as a key person in this cluster, encouraging her neighbors to attend TCD sessions. They have begun gathering funds to develop their own water source, as has been done in other areas of Polewali Village. It will take some time for them to gather the funds, but the training team continues to walk alongside them throughout the process.
A local clinic held an activity at the nearby kindergarten to gather data and train participants regarding the prevention of stunted growth in children. The GHNI team joined the activity, and the clinic showed interest in the TCD approach.
The soap ladies continue production, and this quarter they began building a social media presence for marketing their coconut oil soap.
At water source number four, the community has begun installing water in their homes. However, there is a chalkiness in the water that warrants further investigation.
Transformational Community Development (TCD) Update
Water
Five water sources were completed, and a sixth is in the funding stage.
Wellness
Six latrines were either finished or nearly finished, and two additional latrines are in the planning phase.
Income Generation
The soapmaking group is increasing sales very slowly. It is not yet a significant source of income, but there is forward progress.
Thank you!
