Happy First Birthday to the Loan Project!
September 5, 2023
We are approaching the one-year anniversary of our goat/sheep loan project. What better time to look back and project the future. In our Transformational community Development (TCD) meeting, I evaluated the project. The Income Generation Committee gave loans to 26 farmers. Each bought and kept 2 goats. A total of 52 goats were bought. Now, there are 110 goats total from our evaluation.
I felt happy at the end of the day. More villagers are joining the group as benefits accrue. Recently, in their monthly meeting, eight people joined them in anticipation for their own loans and followed us all day during the evaluation.
“I was so happy with the loan. I was lucky to buy two good ewes. They all gave birth and I have a total of five goats at the moment. It has been difficult taking care but the benefit is enormous. I plan to sell one and buy books for the school children in the coming weeks,” declared Pa Lamgu.
Dibrilla bought sheep. Unfortunately, when he traveled, the children were careless and one of the sheep died. “In spite of that, I am happy as the remaining one gave birth to two. They are grown up already and their mother will soon deliver, again. I now have three sheep and anticipate in the future selling and buying of a cow”. Dibrilla is a polygamous Fulani herdsman with 7 children. Despite the language barriers with the locals he works hard to communicate his ideas to the group during meetings. He is already dreaming big.
It is harvesting season and the Women’s Tailoring Center is on holiday as a majority of the trainees follow their parents to the farms for harvesting.
Thank you!
