Standing on Our Own Two Feet, Together
January 18, 2024
Sreva* told us her story. “There are only five members in my family, and my financial situation was very difficult. I got a sewing kit from the local government for free, but I could not sew clothes or open a shop, and I was ashamed of not standing on my own two feet even though I received the sewing machine. After joining the Transformational Community Development (TCD) classes in our village, my life was transformed and I learned how to stand on my own two feet to grow and change my economic status. After that, I opened a tailoring shop, and it has become easy to change my family’s life and send my two little girls to school. This is the change TCD brought to my life. I want to thank GHNI.”
This month, I taught 11 people in the community how to clean their houses, and the children also learned about water that is safe for use. I taught children to drink more water and to make sure it is clean. I also taught community members about eating fresh fruits and nutrient-rich food that will help make them healthy. I taught them again and again because some members of the community continue to eat more oil and spices. I reminded them that vitamins bring benefits to our bodies and talked about different good foods to eat. Vaccinations were also provided, and I shared how many months they needed to take the leprosy medication.
I have been teaching about Income Generation since the harvest time of paddy. If the community members store it, money will be saved, and it will make them stand on their own two feet. Also, four families sold their cows and have multiplied their goats and pigs.
Thank you!
