Energized for Each Other’s Education!
March 17, 2024

Sawaya Village never had a school until Transformational Community Development (TCD) was introduced about 12 months ago. Thereza, a TCD champion who attended the Training of TCD 1 (TOTCD 1) in Juba, South Sudan, headed to Sawaya right after the training and mobilized the community members to participate in the TCD program. The locals were energized by the TCD vision and, after identifying primary education as their greatest need, worked collaboratively with Thereza to start a school in the village. In two months, they had 300+ children in school.
The school is currently in an open space in the village, where the children gather Monday through Friday to receive the teacher’s teachings. Lack of a roof over their heads and no chairs to sit on did not deter the determination of the children and their parents to acquire an education. More good news is that the children will have classrooms in a couple months. The community has given a piece of land and molded bricks for the building. Thankfully, donations are beginning to trickle in for the purchase of cement, iron rods, roofing sheets, and other building materials. It is not only the kids who will get comfortable soon. Thereza, too! She is going to get a residence! Sawaya Village is all set for transformation!
