Moving Away From Donations
March 17, 2024

Many people living in Kenya right now have stopped depending on donations from the government and nonprofit organizations. Small and medium sized businesses are key contributors to Kenya’s economy, but community members are also beginning to look for more sustainable methods of living. Since we started working in the Gem community, we have seen so much improvement. As Transformational Community Development (TCD) volunteers, this month we embarked on teaching and coaching on micro-entrepreneurship.
After attending several coaching lessons throughout the Gem community, people took up different business ideas, such as selling groceries, animal keeping, shopkeeping, and beginning a motorcycle ride business.
Mr. Kimeli is one of the beneficiaries of the micro-entrepreneurship training. He ventured into animal keeping, and he now buys goats and sheep from the locals and resells them at the Isiolo livestock market on market days. He is very grateful to GHNI for the coaching and the loan provided to start his venture.
Thank you!
