A Source of Water to Save a Village

April 3, 2024

A vast image of a villager's sorghum plantation during the day.

Gada Korma Village is located in Sololo Sub County in Moyale Constituency, a rural area 450 km from Isiolo County. The community living in that village is of the Borana tribe, most of whom come from very poor backgrounds. There is no water because the place is semiarid. The Gada Korma community is a nomadic people group living in a rural village made of grass-thatched houses. There is not one single business, not even a small shop.

We came up with the idea to help the community with a water dam. Collecting the water controlled by the dam has helped them plant sorghum (a grain), which is a major crop grown in the area. A man called Jatan has a sorghum plantation, which he planted using the newly controlled water. Now he’s harvesting the sorghum, and this has become a source of income for him and his family. He is very grateful to Transformational Community Development (TCD) volunteers for their teachings.

Thank you!
