Stitching Opportunity: Sewing & Literacy Center Taking Off
May 6, 2024
Eight women in Ngassa Village have decided to add value to their lives by learning a new skill. They enrolled in the Transformational Community Development (TCD) Women’s Empowerment program and began to learn how to sew. All eight are hardworking and doing well. Four women–Wadarai, Filidi, Muku, and Zainabu–learned how to cut fabrics on their own and are beginning to sew simple styles. The women have spread the word to their family and friends about how beneficial the sewing classes have been for them. Some of the women recently informed Samuel and Babalola, the TCD workers, that some of their family members want to go to Ngassa Village to learn sewing skills.
The building for the sewing center and literacy center is 90% complete, with only doors, window fittings, plastering, and flooring left. With the new building, the women will have a more comfortable atmosphere, for a better learning experience when they eventually move there. Also, more women can be added to the class. This is a cheery development for the women of Ngassa Village, who got this opportunity for the first time courtesy of TCD. Once the doors and windows are fitted, more women will attend the sewing classes.
Transformational Community Development (TCD) Update
Education
Literacy classes have been held with about 25 children attending regularly for the past six months. A 3-room block is currently being built and is almost completed. The literacy classes will begin to be held in one of the rooms when ready. This will provide a more comfortable learning environment.
Income Generation
At the Women’s Empowerment Center, the women currently enrolled are all doing well, and four have progressed tremendously. A new building is under construction that will house both the women’s center and literacy classes. The building will be ready soon!
Thank you!
