One Goat, Two Kids, and a Cow

“My name is Pareli*. There are a total of seven members in my family, and our professions are farming and labor. I could not work as a laborer because my health was not good. My husband used to work for our family members, but I was very worried about how to solve our financial problems. Then Transformational Community Development (TCD) started in our village. When I heard about the importance of TCD, I also became a member. I have gained knowledge from the classes, and I bought a goat with seed money. When the goat had its two children, I bought a cow, and the milk from the cow was used to buy my daily necessities. TCD lessons and seed money have changed the financial status of my family. I am very happy and thankful to GHNI.
This month, according to the needs of the community, I taught about the need for water, what kinds of diseases can be caused by drinking hard water, and the purification measures to take to avoid diseases in water. I also taught a children’s class about education and discussed with them the excitement of getting an education.
I taught the community about the benefits of some foods and the harmfulness of other foods. I taught seven people about the negatives of smoking, cigarettes, and alcohol. Sadly, children aged 9–11 in our community have been consuming those fondly.
Due to the hot and windy weather this month, more headaches, fevers, and respiratory problems have appeared in the community, so I advised them to go to the health post to battle these diseases. I also taught them simple home remedies.
