Community Loans Continue to Help
August 27, 2024
The current situation of Yone-Taw (2) is devastating because of the effect of the conflict in the country. Many factors, including economic instability, fear of conscription, and general lack of security are causing people to flee the village looking for shelter or better conditions. Our champion and her family members were threatened, and she had a miscarriage for the third time while her husband and she tried to find shelter in a safer place.
Regardless of the challenging situation, the community loan program has not stopped. The program benefitted more than 50 people. The villagers are struggling but work hard for their daily living. If not for the loan program, those families’ suffering would be immense. Under uncertain circumstances, the beneficiaries work hard to keep their business running. The market crashed, and they didn’t get the expected income, however, the family business plays an important source in the family survival. The recent flooding in the region also even made life more difficult as the flood destroyed many paddy fields and impacted the local business. It is predicted that the community will have more challenges in the upcoming months as their paddy fields and businesses were impacted by the flood and the current political issues. Our plan is to work closely with our champion, monitoring the loan program and look for opportunities to support the community needs.
Thank you,
