Speaking Peace
Women are learning they can speak calmly and respectfully while still standing up for themselves.

Transformational Community Development (TCD) offers a course on marital relations and problems, with the aim of helping women understand their rights and communicate well. Mrs. Umm Mihrael shared her personal problem and said, “I am a simple wife. I accept anything in the house, and I always strive to preserve my family, but my husband treated me harshly. He would direct hurtful words at me, and sometimes things would reach the point of beating and insulting for the simplest reasons. I did not object but rather kept it to myself and endured, thinking that silence was the best solution to protect the stability of my home and children.”
However, through the lessons, Umm Mihrael realized that patience alone is not enough and that the marital relationship should be based on mutual respect, not fear or silence. She learned that dialogue and understanding are the basis for solving problems and that every woman has the right to be treated in a way that preserves her dignity and psychological peace.
After listening to the lessons at TCD, Umm Mihrael decided to take several steps to improve her relationship with her husband, including opening channels for dialogue. She realized that honest and calm dialogue, instead of silence or harsh confrontation, is the key to solving problems. Expressing her feelings clearly in a direct and respectful manner, without fear or hesitation, will build a relationship based on understanding. She tried to share with her husband what she had learned about the importance of encouragement and psychological support within the family so they could be partners in improving their marital life. She said last week, “Thanks to GHNI for helping us to speak to each other in a better way.”
Thank you,
