Looking Beyond First Impressions
Habiba’s story shows the need to look past first impressions and focus on the heart of the matter.
In the town of Bani Mazar, a child named Habiba lived, suffering from a mild intellectual disability that affected her behavior and interaction with others. She cried a lot and was irritable, violent, and unable to express what was inside her. She lived in isolation for a while, unable to engage in society or make friends, and those around her remained unable to understand or reach her, until she seemed like a prisoner in a private world where no one could hear her. When she joined the Transformational Community Development (TCD) group, some features of change began to emerge slowly and gracefully.
Habiba found a safe and loving environment in the TCD group, and she was seen, not as a burden, but as a precious treasure. We approached her with love and patience, and she began to calm down and smile. The fits of anger and crying decreased, and she became more connected, memorizing some names, responding to simple instructions, and most importantly, she began to express herself and ask for closeness instead of screaming in silence.
Today, Habiba is no longer an angry, isolated child but has become a living symbol of the power of love and acceptance. It has been shown that every heart, no matter how simple or limited, can change if there is someone to see it with eyes of mercy. What happened to her was not just a behavioral improvement but a rebirth of a child who felt for the first time that she was loved as she was.
Thank you,
