Drought Continues to Devastate Villages
August 15, 2022
The drought in this area was severe both last year and this year. Several animals are dying as a result of this. This drought affected many of the people of our project community. Due to the drought, over half of the people have abandoned their community. This drought is wreaking havoc on children and mothers. The GHNI emergency response provided us with $1,000 USD to aid the community, but if we receive further assistance, we will be able to include more families. Our work in Harowayo Village has brought much hope to the community, and additional funding will allow us to continue our Transformational Community Development (TCD) work.
Transformational Community Development (TCD) Update
Water
The pond has been cleaned by the Water Committee. They put a fence around it a few weeks ago to safeguard the water source. The committee also teaches the community how to filter drinking water and demonstrates the bio sand filter process.
Food
The Agricultural Group is hard at work in the common field, growing a variety of crops. In addition, they have developed their own farm area on their complex where they cultivate various vegetables.
Wellness
The Wellness Committee educates the community on illness prevention and kitchen sanitation. In addition, the locals attempted to construct bathrooms within their courtyard.
Education
The Education Committee worked hard to assist the students to attend school, but the peace situation and COVID-19 made it difficult for the students to do so.
Income Generation
GHNI provided goats for the women’s group to generate income. This goat herd has grown, and the women are now involved in various tiny commercial operations in the area. This really assists them in providing for their families.
Thank you!
