Villagers Celebrate Their First Harvest
December 27, 2022
The community that led the agricultural rehabilitation program is operating well in the village, benefitting 28 families for the first batch. Regardless of the current economic crisis in the country, the Transformational Community Development (TCD) program remains a hope for those beneficiaries and the community.
This month, the families who grow seasonal plants have their first harvest. Since the fighting in the area started over again after the military coup, the community could not harvest their crops, and later they could not even work their fields. They had to depend upon humanitarian aid for the entire year for survival. However, the community leaders took initiative and planned the rehabilitation program as a sustainable agricultural development and Income Generation for families. After six months of implementation, four families had their first harvest and sold the vegetables they produced to make money for their families. In an interview with one of the beneficiaries, he said, “We are so glad we have our first harvest this year. I planted cucumbers. Due to the unstable market and inflation, and drought, we did not get as much profit as we expected during planning. But I believe I will be able to pay back the loan in April. The small profit we gained through this program is very helpful for our family.”
The rest of the beneficiaries also are working hard to have their harvest soon. But they all have challenges in growing the plants because of the unstable political situation and economy in the area and across the country.
Thank you,
