Children Enjoy Literacy Classes
December 19, 2023
Half the population of kids in Ngassa Village do not attend school. Some boys are enrolled in Koranic schools under the tutelage of a Mallam, who teaches them how to read the Quran and learn the Arabic language. The Transformational Community Development (TCD) workers decided to start a literacy school in the village after several months of advocacy with parents on the need for children to get a basic Education. The children got wooden slates and wrote with chalk. Finding the classes a worthwhile and novel experience, the children, including Hanatu (a female child), attend the literacy class three times a week with great enthusiasm and joy. The TCD workers are hopeful that the literacy center will serve as an impetus for the establishment of a primary school so that Ngassa children will have the opportunity to enjoy their right to be educated.
Thank you!
