Community Ownership Expands Income Generation

A group of villagers in a circle as they learn from a TCD worker.

I am very excited to report the activities we have done through Transformational Community Development (TCD) this month. We are raising awareness among the community members by teaching the lessons of TCD to meet their basic needs. During this month, I have focused on community ownership during the events and programs held in the community. Self-sustainability and the contribution of the community to Income Generation were the main subjects of this month’s TCD activities.

This month, I taught community women about the immunizations that newborn babies should have. I also taught them about the necessity of women’s personal health and sanitation. Community women are motivated to go to the health post for regular health checkups. The TCD program has been able to raise awareness for each one of the community members according to their situation and needs. Our TCD team met with two pregnant women and their husbands and counseled them to take care of their pregnancy. We have noticed that they are going to the health post for their regular pregnancy check ups now. I also counseled them to eat a balanced diet with vitamins, proteins, iron, and calcium for the baby’s development.

GHNI has provided seed money for sustainable Income Generation. I taught about self-sustainability to the community members and observed the Income Generation work that community members did. I encouraged them to expand their businesses and raise income sources, multiplying their income. I also encouraged them to share their TCD experiences with others. Most of the community members loved to do poultry and goat keeping. By keeping hens, Dhyansh* got a good income this month. I followed up with community members and motivated them, telling them whatever success they achieved was because of their hard work, faithfulness, and strong ownership of the TCD program.

This month, a doctor provided medicine for community members at no cost. Community members who suffered from high blood pressure, sugar, gastric issues, etc. have benefited. This program helped the community be healthy.

Because of building awareness, the community now has access to the local government, and they are addressing community needs. We were given a budget from the local government for road construction.

The TCD program has played a vital role in community development. This month, I visited Luina Village and met the TCD committee there. We had a meeting with the community, and I taught about Income Generation. They are doing well and are sharing TCD with another cluster village.

This is the success story of Lopika*. She is a TCD and Income Generation team member. She had no income sources before she joined TCD, but three years ago she became involved in goat keeping with the help of TCD. She started with two young female goats, and she now has seven goats. Within the last three-year years, she sold three male goats and became successful in managing her family expenses. She is happy and wants to give thanks to GHNI.

Thank you!
