Gem Village is thriving in terms of agriculture. This season, the villagers of the Gem community have embarked on serious farming because Kenya was blessed with ample rainfall. The Transformational Community Development (TCD) lessons on Food and agriculture were put into immediate practice.
We provided seeds for maize and beans for the villagers, and one member planted five acres of land. Others planted half acres each and have harvested a lot of yield for sale and also for their families. For the next year or so, the Gem community will not have to wait for relief from the government anymore, for they have learned about self-sustainability. Mzee Nakoli is one of the farmers who planted two acres and has produced more than ten bags of beans. Nakolia is very grateful to GHNI volunteers for their impeccable work in the Gem community.
Thank you!
