Sewing Lives Back Together
April 3, 2024
The Isiolo Empowerment Center is a polytechnic school that specializes in training young women and men on various skills such as beauty and hairdressing, tailoring and dressmaking, and food and beverage service. We had closed down for a few months due to a lack of students, but we reopened at the beginning of February. So far, we’ve had great success with the school. We have 26 students for the hairdressing course and 8 students for tailoring and dressmaking. Five of those students are boarders.
Most of the girls in the school come from very poor backgrounds in Maisha Bora. All of them are school dropouts due to a lack of school fees or early pregnancies. Some of them can barely afford the products needed for hairdressing classes, but with the help of the school management through Transformational Community Development (TCD), the girls are being supported through the school, and they are continuing with their education. As of now, they are hopeful for a better future.
Thank you!
