The Right Tools for the Job
April 3, 2024
In our village, we rely on essential tools for various purposes: generators for electricity, water pumps for vegetable farming, and motorcycles for transportation. However, when these tools break down or encounter issues, it poses a challenge. We used to take them to a repair and maintenance service in the city, which incurred significant costs. Fortunately, GHNI, through the Transformational Community Development (TCD) partnership, provided us with valuable training in small engine maintenance. Not only did they offer training, but they also equipped us with full tool kits, which would have otherwise cost us over 200,000 Ethiopian Bir ($3,500) per trainee.
Now, armed with these tools, we can start small businesses. This dual benefit allows us to earn income while supporting our families. Moreover, the convenience of having local access to repair services is invaluable. When a generator, water pump, or motorcycle malfunctions, we no longer need to travel long distances or pay exorbitant maintenance fees. Our community can now access these services within a reachable distance, thanks to the training and tool kits provided.
Thank you!
