The Skills to Help Themselves

Isiolo Empowerment Centre is a technical training institute that provides skills such as tailoring and dressmaking, embroidery, hairdressing, and food and beverage management. This technical school targets students from the least privileged families. Currently, we have about twenty-eight students who are taking the tailoring and dressmaking course.
Mary, one of the students in our school, hails from Maisha Bora. She joined our school early this year and comes from a very poor background. She is a single mother of one child who could barely afford to take care of the needs of her small family. Transformational Community Development (TCD) volunteers met her and decided to help her by enrolling her in our empowerment school so that she could help herself and her child, who were languishing in poverty.
So far, she is the best student we have in our hairdressing class! She is able to train others while the teacher is not present, and she has even set up a small salon in her village where she works to earn a bit of income to support herself and her child. She is very grateful to GHNI for the support they’ve shown towards the community through the Isiolo Empowerment Centre.
