Beyond the Backyard
Backyard gardens are more than a hobby for many families in Old Mosongo.
Gbassay, a 41-year-old single mother, lives in Old Mosongo with her 3 children. She struggled to feed them due to poor harvests and limited knowledge of modern farming practices. At one point, her situation was so dire that she had to rely on the charity of neighbors just to ensure her children ate once a day.
Her life began to change after receiving training in concepts and agricultural practices. Today, she manages a small but productive backyard garden, growing vegetables, legumes, and tuber crops to feed her family. The garden now produces enough to meet her household’s needs and even generate income by selling the surplus.
Thanks to TCD, Gbassay and her family now enjoy both food security and a sustainable source of income. The training equipped her with improved farming skills and knowledge, empowering her to break free from the cycle of poverty and hunger that once defined their lives.
Thank you!
