Transformational Community Development (TCD) has been of great help to the women of Maisha Bora who are learning valuable knowledge, such as starting and running small businesses, financial management, and literacy lessons. In Maisha Bora, women who are married are forbidden by their spouses to work, so when we came into the village, it was very difficult to teach on Income Generation. We faced a lot of resistance, but slowly we taught the men the importance of having more than one stream of income, especially now that the Kenyan people are facing difficult economic times. The introduction of microloan initiatives has been particularly impactful, providing essential training and guidance to individuals seeking to start or expand businesses. This approach has been met with enthusiasm and positivity within the community.
Mama Hanna stands as a testament to the TCD program’s success. Having received a loan, she ventured into selling maize at the local Friday market. Her business has flourished, generating steady profits that not only sustain her family but also uplift their quality of life. Formerly idle, Mama Hanna now thrives as a productive member of her community, grateful to GHNI volunteers for catalyzing such positive changes in her life and the lives of many others in Maisha Bora. This TCD program has shown sustainable development and empowerment in the community, showcasing how strategic initiatives can foster lasting improvements in underserved communities.
Thank you,
