Helpful Health Camp
August 27, 2024
Through a partnership with the health workers who are allocated by the county government to each village, we are helping the Gem community realize the need to take care of their well-being. Through the Transformational Community Development (TCD) lessons, the community is learning valuable life-saving knowledge such as the importance of breastfeeding, birth-related mortality for women, care for HIV/AIDS-infected people, and home hygiene.
This month, we partnered with the government health workers and Isiolo County referral hospital to do a medical camp for the Gem community. The camp provided free prenatal care, eye checkups, blood pressure screening, diabetes screening, HIV/Aids testing and issuing of Aids-related drugs, and also addressed child malnutrition.
Nina is one of the beneficiaries of the TCD program. Since she heard of the medical camp, she started going for antenatal care, which has enabled her to get her prenatal vitamins. This form of screening has played a big role in reducing maternal death, miscarriages, birth defects, low birth weight, neonatal infections, and other preventable health problems.
The TCD program and its collaborative approach show GHNI’s commitment to sustainable health improvements in underserved communities like Gem, demonstrating the power of TCD in impacting people’s lives positively.
Thank you!
