In Kiwanjani, we continue to provide Transformational Community Development (TCD) lessons to the farmers. The rewards of TCD in Kiwanjani Village are evident all around the village. Earlier in the month, the farmers started nurseries, and now the plants have grown into maturity. The Food Committee also took an interest in the poultry farmers in the area and wanted them to be trained. This month, we had a meeting with the poultry farmers and discussed the issues they faced. They admitted to having little knowledge of proper chicken rearing as a commercial enterprise. They lacked the skills, knowledge, and consistency to do the right thing. Therefore, they received training on disease and parasite management, proper housing, feeding, marketing, and organizational management of poultry.

Wario is a small-scale poultry farmer in Kiwanjani Village. Before starting his poultry farm, Wario would go to various construction sites and market places to seek employment as a casual laborer. When he failed to secure a job, he would go home without a single coin. The need for a sustainable source of income drove Wario to venture into poultry farming, raising indigenous Kienyeji chickens. He had little knowledge on chicken rearing, and his farm was not doing well. Thanks to the TCD training in poultry raising, Wario has acquired the necessary skills to make his chicken farm a success, and now he is able to support his family. With this investment in poultry farming, Wario sees a bright future.
