As the community continues to learn about the importance of safe drinking water, we distributed water filter pots to some families in the community and helped them make sure their drinking water was clean. This month, when I visited them, I checked their water storage jars and pots, and I told them how to keep the water safe. Because of TCD, the community members are being educated more about the use of safe drinking water, and they have come to realize they need to clean both their water source and tank to keep the water clean.

I taught community children about sanitation and child abuse prevention. Because of this teaching, the children were inspired to put into practice what they had learned. I taught community members about Income Generation and encouraged them to become involved in agriculture, kitchen gardening, and beekeeping. New families are involved in Income Generation this month.

When I taught about human trafficking, the women in the community became aware and worked on becoming safe from being trafficked. I have told them to share their stories about women’s trafficking, and the TCD women’s group is also doing awareness activities in the community.

I have enjoyed teaching community members about goat and hen keeping. Community families who don’t have any family income sources are taught to start hen and goat keeping because this is very helpful and easy to start. So, this month, I encouraged community members to generate income by keeping hens and goats.

During one of the TCD committee meetings, we discussed our TCD work and how to play a good role in the community to help bring about transformation. While in the community, we met with government officers and political leaders to speak about the problems in the community. Since Ramantar Village is a squatter village, the community doesn’t have their land papers.

Kripa* lives with her husband and three children in Ramantar Village. She had no income, and she faced financial problems. It was very difficult to provide good food, clothes, and education to her children. When she became involved with TCD, she learned about Income Generation, so she started a micro-meat shop along with a Kirana shop (a small, usually family-owned shop selling groceries and other sundries). She has a good income now and is very happy because she could raise the family’s income source and provide hope for the future. She says that because of TCD, she is able to manage all the basic needs of her family. For this success, she wants to give thanks to TCD and GHNI.
