Building Care Through Healthy Food
April 3, 2024
Isiolo County is located in the upper eastern part of Kenya. Kiwanjani Village is located in Wabera Ward, which is a wide area in Isiolo where a large number of people are living in extreme poverty. Only a few people can afford even one meal per day. In Kiwanjani, there is a nursery school called Kiwanja Ndege Nursery School. The school is a feeder school for Kiwanjani Primary School and has over 100 students who are in pre-primary classes (ages four and five.) It has classrooms, but no water and no kitchen. The children cook outside, under a tree, which is very dangerous for their health. They have been exposed to diseases such as cholera and diarrhea due to outside contamination.
The Transformational Community Development (TCD) partnership came up with the idea of building a kitchen for the school, and the construction is now complete! The students are now comfortable cooking in their new kitchen. The committee, school teachers, and parents are very grateful to GHNI for their support.
Thank you!
