One Woman‘s Excitement Changed Her Village
October 6, 2022
Successful Transformational Community Development (TCD) programmes require local mobilisers—people from within the community that catch the vision and won’t let anything get in the way of progress. Kemala* has lived all of her 57 years in a small village in Polewali. She is known to be energetic and fun and is well loved by children in the community because she volunteers her time to teach them how to read and write.
When the village TCD committee began discussing the prospect of working with GHNI to find clean water sources for their village, Kemala was instantly hooked. She began to imagine a water faucet in her own home after 57 years of trekking back and forth to the river. She then gathered her neighbours together, and over the next several months, they compiled their money and resources, with Kemala encouraging them every time they became doubtful or distracted.
Kemala and her neighbours achieved their vision and are enjoying a new and improved lifestyle while becoming an inspiration for other village clusters where people are now seeing that perhaps they can do the same.
Thank you,
