This quarterly report marks a pivotal six-month milestone for the Transformational Community Development (TCD) program, showcasing the community’s successful transition from relief toward sustainable self-reliance. During this period, the local TCD committees fully achieved their stated objectives: remediating contaminated water sources, drastically reducing childhood diseases, and building the collaborative strength necessary to solve local problems independently. This progress demonstrates that a strategic transfer of TCD knowledge catalyzes a massive transformation, empowering residents to move beyond their previous limitations and take full ownership of their community’s future.
The Wellness and Water Committee has been instrumental in this success, specifically targeting the root causes of chronic health issues such as stomach ailments, dehydration, and intestinal problems. Through frequent health lessons and the successful installation of a sustainable bio-sand water filtration system, the committee has established vital habits like regular handwashing and boiling drinking water. The impact of these behavioral changes is best expressed by Mariar,* a local mother, who shared: “After six months of TCD, I have seen positive changes in my family’s health. We developed habits like boiling water and washing hands, and my kids have become much healthier.”
Ultimately, these achievements highlight a deep-seated commitment to transformation through shared TCD values and collective action. By shifting the community’s mindset toward proactive hygiene and shared infrastructure maintenance, the program has created a healthier, more resilient environment that serves as a beacon for the surrounding Mro-Khumi communities. This success reinforces our motivation to reach the visionary goal of 250 model villages, proving that even in chaotic times, local partnership and your faithful support can bring holistic healing to the hidden and the hurting in Myanmar.
