Returning to the Fields Inspires Hope
September 1, 2022
The rehabilitation programme through agricultural development is happening in the community under the supervision of the Executive Committee. In the first batch of the programme, 29 families received seed money and started their proposed agricultural works. Before the programme, the community did engage in proper agricultural business for family Income. They grew various plants and only produced food for the family. They did not do agriculture for family Income Generation purposes.
The past three years, the community could not work in their fields due to the conflicts in the area, and the effects of the pandemic. As a result, the community did not have enough crops to harvest last year and many families encountered food shortage. GHNI came alongside and helped solve the problems. After two years, the community leaders came up with a sustainable rehabilitation plan to prepare the community for the future.
Khine is one of the beneficiaries of the programme. He said, “I am so glad GHNI helped us start this programme. I chose to do an elephant-yam plantation under this programme. It will take me three years for the first harvest. It gives me hope for my family even though we have some struggles now. My plants are growing well. I take good care of them. I feel so happy to work again in my field after a few years. I believe this programme will increase my family income by the time the harvest is due.”
Thank you!
