Mali, a country in sub-Saharan Africa, gets only three to four months of rain each year, a situation that makes it vulnerable to drought. Nakoyaga, a farming community, has put all other activities on hold, including Transformational Community Development (TCD) activities, to enable the locals to focus on their farms and maximize this year’s rainy season.

The rainfall situation in Mali and its impact on TCD activities gives us food for thought. TCD is about transforming lives and communities in a sustainable way, so what interventions for food and water can TCD partnerships bring to Nakoyaga? The trapping and storing of rainwater during the rainy season, along with irrigation farming, are TCD projects to consider in the near future for Mali TCD villages.
