This amazing country has a rich history and culture, majestic mountains, and beautiful people.

As diverse as the people and the culture, so is our work in Kyrgyzstan. Each of our projects in our TCD villages reflects the identity and strength of our amazing volunteers. In several villages, there is a strong emphasis on agriculture. In another area, an educational specialist offers help and hope by assisting first the teachers and then the students in the local village schools.

VILLAGES/PROJECTS

"At the end of our first child's camp, our neighbors (who had never supported us) bought ice cream for all the children! We plan to hold a camp like this every season and to involve the parents."

Osh Village

Issyk Kul Village

This region of the country is characterized by beautiful green summers and harsh, white winters. With fertile land and wide open vistas, opportunities abound. However, outdated and improper agricultural techniques reduce productivity. In addition to this, the flight of the youth to urban areas has diminished overall output and the richness of village life.

We take a holistic approach to help people find solutions to their needs. The approaches include direct agricultural improvements, such as soil and livestock care, improvements to irrigation, and selection of crops, as well as providing educational opportunities usually only afforded in larger cities. With all of these, the most important thing is a mindset change.

Osh Village

Once the midpoint of the Silk Road, it seems to be a healthy region. However, it has significant underlying problems, such as ethnic tension and extremism. Despite plentiful natural resources, lack of water and infrastructure hinder progress. It also suffers from recent events and a destructive history. Despite these challenges, these villagers strive to improve their lives for their families' sake.

GHNI always strives to use local resources to solve the challenges facing the villages. This region is no exception. Whether it is animal husbandry or working orchards and fields, the people of this region are not afraid of hard work. However, oftentimes, the full potential of the community is not reached because people are not willing to work together. TCD strives to bring the community together to solve their own problems.
