"You and your support made all the difference in the world." -
Murtouch/Talan - Sunkist* Village
Having started in the Murtoach and Talan region, like many things, the Corona pandemic changed the ability to access certain regions and during this time our focus switched the the Sunkist region. On to of this, the addition of Afghan region to the Sunkist community increased the importance to us and our staff. Making up for lost time, the local champion and the people of the village worked extra hard during the periods of restricted movement, to become one of most transformed communities.
GHNI started working in Sunkist at the invitation of our local champion. She has the respect and the ear of most of the women in her community. If you transform the life of a woman, you transform the whole family. If you transform the families, you transform the entire community. This has been the approach in Sunkist. We have provided economic creation opportunities through a sewing lessons at the Women's Empowerment Center. This has opened the door to Wholistic Wellness (TCD) Lessons. The Afghan refugees were easily folded into this process. We continue to work in Murtouch and Talon.
Yagnob/Yavan Village
As with many development projects, they experience the process of three steps forward and then two steps back. This characterizes our work in Yagnob/Yavan. The problems of mass immigration, especially of the main breadwinner, economic challenges, and mistrust facing many former Soviet Republics are evident in this community. However, hats off of our National Leadership. Instead of giving up, they have persisted, looking for new and better ways to bring transformation this these communities.
As stated before, the desire to earn more money to improve your family's future is a huge temptation, especially in Tajikistan. It has been reported that more than 1 million Tajik guest workers are in Russia. The pull has also drawn some of own TCD Workers, causing frequent pauses in our work. However, the current war in Ukraine has compounded the problem since international pressure has weakened the Russian economy. This only highlights the need to find solution local problems with locally available solutions.
