The life of Balaro, and indeed that of his entire village, is a testimony to the genuine impact Transformational Community Development (TCD) can have, not just on a community’s physical environment but also on their mentality.

Balaro, who serves as a member of the TCD Income Generation Committee, was quite appreciative of the improved quality of life in the community since the completion of the borehole project. The community maintains the borehole with great care. Additionally, the recently provided soybean grinding machine has made the preservation of their harvests easier. Balaro is also grateful for the Ventilated Improved Pit (VIP) latrines, which have reduced public defecation and its accompanying health risks.

Acknowledging the financial implications the teachings have had on the people’s capacity to generate income and escape poverty, Balaro especially applauds the TCD lessons that have made his community more conscious of bodily cleanliness, a sanitary environment, and its relation to the community’s health.

It is in light of this that he implores the community to build a health center, which would greatly benefit them and help to sustain the healthy developments the community is currently enjoying. His chief concern is the community’s susceptibility to snake attacks and snake bites which have been recorded in the recent past.
