Villagers Use Local Resources for Income Generation

Villagers learn to value their local resources over imported resources.

An indoor TCD class being conducted at Ramantar Village. - Villagers Use Local Resources for Income Generation

Transformational Community Development (TCD) is taken as a breath we take in every moment in the rural community.” TCD has been successful in connecting people with Income Generation resources for family income sources.

Our TCD team has encouraged the mobilization of local sources for community Income Generation. We focus on the use of local sources rather than imports from outside. We discussed the quality of local materials and imported materials concerning health issues and their cost. The participants learned the importance of local items and materials rather than imported ones. In this way, people are inspired to do kitchen gardens, use the local products, and avoid junk food in their children’s snacks. There were seventeen participants. They became very excited with this training’s lessons and are ready to learn more TCD lessons to be sustainable in the coming days ahead.

Most of the community women depend on their husband’s income in the rural poor communities. ButTCD changed Mahima*’s life. She became self-sustainable through the TCD program after she joined. She learnt the skill of making ornaments, and she started making ornaments like her husband. She said, “Now I can earn money by making ornaments, and I am happy to work together with my husband.”

I taught community members about Income Generation through goat keeping. I visited eight families and taught them the skills of goat farming to get success in Income Generation. I taught them to identify diseases and do treatments on time. And I taught them to take care of their goats and keep them clean. Khyana* had no job, but with the help of TCD, now she has two goats and hopes for success. She is happily caring for goats.

Also, I taught about bee farming, which is one of the Income Generation sources. Sometimes, people are afraid of bees stinging, so most of the community members are not interested. But reality is different from their thoughts, no need to worry about bees stinging. Bees are not dangerous. We can easily do bee farming using safety measures and tools. And after this teaching, Bishes Praja was interested, started bee farming, and is now personally learning from me about bee farming.

*For the purpose of safety and wellbeing, “Mahima” and “
Khyana” are pseudonyms for the individuals being helped by this project.
