This month, the Transformational Community Development (TCD) journey took us deeper into the heart of Binodpur Village, where we encountered a touching story of resilience and hope—the story of Pranvallab and his wife, Sundari.

Pranvallab and Sundari, 68 and 63 years old, run a modest tea stall to make ends meet. With no agricultural land or secondary income, they have always lived hand-to-mouth. Sundari, despite her age, used to catch crabs from the river to support their earnings. However, over the past few months, her deteriorating health made it impossible for her to continue. This led them to borrow goods on credit and accumulate a debt of 5,000 rupees ($60), which they are now unable to repay. Despite seeking help from their neighbors, no one was willing to assist without charging high interest rates.

In response to this urgent need, the TCD committee of Binodpur, under the Women’s Empowerment Initiative, which has been actively focusing on Income Generation through skill development programs like mushroom cultivation and country chicken raising, stepped in. With the generous support of GHNI, we were able to provide interest-free financial assistance of 5,000 rupees to the family in desperate need. This support has not only helped them manage their immediate crisis but has also restored their faith in community solidarity and support.

This small act of kindness reflects on the larger impact of TCD initiatives. We are proud to see how compassion, when paired with action, can rebuild lives. Lives! We extend our heartfelt thanks to GHNI for enabling us to bring lasting hope to families like Pranvallab and Sundari’s. Together, we continue to transform communities—one life at a time.
