Necessary Intervention

A timely intervention and a lesson on sanitation provide a whole new approach to Wellness for the Komende community.

Sierra Leone villager, Sarmu Lahai, standing in front of a newly-built VIP laterine. - Necessary Intervention

Sarmu had never seen or used a decent toilet facility, having always defecated in the nearby bushes around the community. It wasn’t until an intervention by Transformational Community Development (TCD) workers, where ventilated improved pit (VIP) latrines were provided, that members of the community like Sarmu learned the benefit of dedicated toilet facilities. They testified to an improvement in the general health and wellness of themselves and their children. This and other developments being brought by TCD have greatly enlightened the community on health needs and inspired them to pursue environmental sanitation and cleanliness as a means to better health outcomes.
