Goats Produce Fertilizer, Fertilizer Produces Vegetables

Realizing another benefit of keeping goats brings more income for a young man and inspires him to teach others.

Samarth’s* journey into goat keeping is a powerful example of how sustainable practices can transform lives. Coming from a poor family, Samarth often faced severe financial hardships and had no stable source of income. His life began to change when he joined the Transformational Community Development (TCD) program, which provided him with training and a small amount of seed money to start a livelihood.

Through the lessons and guidance from TCD, Samarth discovered the potential of goat farming—not only as a way to earn income, but also as a method to promote sustainable agriculture in his community. He realized that goat keeping could provide organic fertilizer, which in turn supported vegetable gardening and improved crop production. With this integrated approach, Samarth was able to grow fresh vegetables and other crops, improving both his food security and financial stability.

Beyond his personal success, Samarth became a teacher and motivator for others. He actively shares his knowledge with new farmers, educating them about the economic and environmental benefits of goat keeping. His passion for sustainability has helped others in his village start their own journeys toward self-reliance.

Today, Samarth is happy and deeply grateful to GHNI and the TCD program. Through the training, guidance, and his own hard work, his goat keeping venture has grown, and his income has steadily increased. Goats have now become the foundation of his family’s livelihood and a symbol of hope and transformation in his community.
